You are probably aware that your surroundings can influence how you feel. For example, if everything around you is a chaotic mess, that will probably affect your emotions. Extra stuff stored all around where you can constantly see it detracts from your home being a restful place for you. Remember, an organized home is well on its way to being a place where you can lick your wounds, but a chaotic home is not really a very comfortable place to live. However, if you are already a very organized person, you still might find some helpful tips in this article to help you do an even better job of making your home a more peaceful haven. Here are five de-clutter tips just for you: 1. If your home is overflowing with storage and you can't find room to put it all away, seriously consider either throwing some stuff out or giving it away. No matter how many square feet are in your home, it will appear to be more spacious if you have less things taking up space sitting around. 2. Go to a store that specializes in selling storage containers and select several in which to keep your belongings. You can store things that you want to keep in these containers and then keep them in closets near each room where these items are usually kept. These storage units can be brightly colored -- such as colorful crates to be used in your children's rooms. You can also purchase shelving units to display your children's favorite toys and books. Consider using office trays in your home office. 3. Give junk mail the immediate boot. Try not to handle these papers more than once or you'll be wasting your valuable time. 4. Take time to organize your collectibles. Here's how to begin: walk around the room where your collectibles are displayed and pay attention to how many you have to dust. It's usually more appealing to limit your collectibles to three items on an end table. Have a rotating plan for your collectibles so that they are not all displayed at once. That way, your furniture will actually show instead of being totally covered with stuff. You might be surprised how much easier it will be to dust. You also wind up having a place to put things down when you want to do so. Have you considered purchasing a glass-front display case for your treasures instead of placing them on tables and other pieces of furniture around the room? That will also help you not to work so hard at dusting. Your collectibles will have a special place to be on view and your home won't look so cluttered either. Consider buying other pieces of furniture with glass fronts such as hutches, shelves, bookcases and cabinets. That will also cut back on dusting. 5. For an uncluttered look to your home and a more spacious look, consider investing in fewer large pieces of furniture rather than a lot of smaller ones. After you have finished organizing your things, enjoy the new feeling of spaciousness and calm in your own home -- your retreat from the world. Although it may have taken you a lot of time and energy to organize all of your things, it will be well worth it to live in a more restful environment.
