It is not always easy for someone to stand or sit without assistance. Many people who have difficulty standing or sitting suffer from mobility related diseases like osteoarthritis, and are unable to safely stand. To help combat this they choose to use a lift chair in their home. Almost everyone has or is at least familiar with recliners and lift chairs are a special type of recliner. They are very different though, because a lift chair is not only great for sitting in, but it also helps you stand in a manner that is safe. When the chair is fully raised, it is a simple and safe manner for the occupant to exit the chair. Modern lift chairs utilize an electric motor to control the lifting mechanism, backrest, and footrest. Older chairs had used a spring propulsion system, but this can be very dangerous, so no reputable companies still offer the spring loaded chair. Some disingenuous companies do still offer this type of dangerous device though, so if you come across a company that still sells spring loaded lift chairs, you should avoid purchasing anything from these companies. Since modern quality lift chairs are operated by remote control, it is very easy to find a comfortable position for sleeping, watching TV, or eating. The amount that the lift chair can recline varies by model. Some models called 2 position lift chairs can recline to a position that is great for watching TV or taking a nap, but can not fully recline. 3 position lift chairs are able to recline to an almost horizontal position that makes it easy to sleep. Infinite positions also recline to an almost horizontal position, but they differ from other lift chairs, because they allow for independent movement of the backrest and footrest. This means that the backrest can be down, but the foot rest put up. How far back the chair can be placed from the wall, while still fully reclining, is an important consideration when purchasing a lift chair. Most require around 18? of free space to recline, but if you are dealing with tight quarters this might be too much. Wall huggers are one type of lift chair recliner that can be placed quite close to the wall, but still fully recline. Most wall hugger lift chairs can be placed as close as 6 inches from the wall. Several 3 position and infinite position wall huggers are available, so you need not sacrifice functionality for convenience. It is not always easy to stand or to sit on your own, and many that can not easily do so use lift chairs to help them. These special recliners can offer comfort and safety all rolled into one.
