Simple Heartburn Relief Tips

By: Christine Andrews

Heartburn is a difficulty that no one likes to encounter at any time. It is generally experienced by eating the wrong type of food. And unfortunately, many people who seek pain relief for their heartburn are generally looking for quick-fix solutions so that they can continue with the same type of eating habits as before.

There are many home remedies to relieve heartburn which include such things as drinking a spoonful of apple cider vinegar in water, and even eating raw almonds which some say help relieve their problems. However, these things are not based on proven remedies for alleviating heartburn; all of these methods are based on individual effort as well as trial and error attempts since it is necessary to look for the method that will work best for him or her.

In looking for quick and proven solutions to heartburn problems, there are several approaches to examine. In the form of medicinal aids, there are three main solutions for heartburn: antacids, alginates and H2 blockers. Now, these three solutions all work to varying degrees; the success of each is determined by a person's heartburn problem and current situation.

Antacid Relief for Heartburn

Antacids are the fastest solution for heartburn since they balance the acid buildup in the digestive tract and stomach. This solution can only provide immediate relief and would have to be taken each time one experiences heartburn. However, if you (or any other person) only experienced heartburn once (or once in a blue moon) antacids will work perfectly. Just make sure that you buy some at your local drug store and always bring them along with you.

Alginates for Heartburn Relief

Alginates are also useful in giving heartburn relief. This solution usually lasts for about 4 to 5 hours and is a moderate solution to the problem. One can take alginates before going out to a buffet (or any sort of eating binge). They work by forming a protective layer over the contents of the stomach that prevents the contained acid from entering the esophagus.

Histamine-2 Blockers (H-2) for Heartburn Relief

H-2 blockers are the precautionary method used to prevent any heartburn for up to 12 hours; Since heartburn is often activated by a specific food or drink that increases histamine levels which dictates the amount of acid in our stomachs, H2 blockers prevent histamine levels from increasing thus lowering the chances of heartburn from happening.

Histamine blocking agents require more time than antacids or alginates before they can effectively counter the symptoms of heartburn. Consequently, it is important to take them at regularly scheduled intervals as a plan of attack for regulating symptoms of heartburn.

All of these solutions work, however you should choose the one that best suits your personal situation. Like all remedies, these solutions have a different effect on each individual. Consequently, you need to carefully choose the most effective solution for you in order to prevent any heartburn problems in the future.
